Biafra: Prof Wole Soyinka Calls For More Diplomacy

Image
Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has emphasized the need for the country’s leadership to approach the agitations for Biafra in a more diplomatic way. In an exclusive interview on our programme, Channels Book Club, the Nobel laureate said that every ethnic group should be made to feel like a part of the country and good old dialogue is the way to go. “I wrote an article during the war that Biafra cannot be defeated. People misunderstood what I was saying. “Once an idea has taken hold, you cannot destroy that idea. You may destroy the people, the carriers of that idea on the battle field but ultimately it’s not the end of the story. “Let’s not take this position of ‘don’t even talk about it’, ‘under my watch this will never happen’, don’t say things like that. Go into that environment and ask ‘what is it that we can do to make you happy and feel part of this entity?’ “Listen to some other Biafrans and ask them why they want to stay (and say) ‘this is what we...

Saint West Filmworks is based out of San Diego and, of course, owns the domain SaintWest.com  and ALL multimedia rights to the name as well. Co-founder  Matt Jensen  tells us he's amused Kim and Kanye decided to go with "Saint "  ... especially since he just acquired the rights 3 months ago! Talk about great timing. Jensen says his company has already done considerable branding and marketing, but is willing to work something out with the Wests for usage rights. Translation: money talks. In the meantime, Jensen thinks the coincidence will help drive traffic to his site. Cha-ching!

House Passes Bill cutting Oil Export Ban, Obama Veto Looms

Image
The U.S. House of Representatives passed a wide-ranging bill on energy reforms on Thursday that includes a measure to repeal the 40-year-old oil export ban, but the legislation did not get enough votes to overturn a potential veto by President Barack Obama. The North American Energy Security and Infrastructure Act passed 249 to 174, but did not get the 290 votes needed to overcome a veto. The bill would also speed the permitting of liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports and improve the aging power grid. The White House said late last month that Obama would veto the bill as it would reduce the government's ability to consider LNG projects. That veto threat came before the lawmakers added an amendment to repeal the oil export ban, which Obama also opposes. The Senate is seen as unlikely to pass a bill that includes lifting the trade restriction amid concerns that more domestic drilling would harm the environment, lead to more oil being carried by trains, ...
